Motivation

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has granted Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) full funding to set up a Digital Clinician Scientist Program, based on the successful example of the BIH Charité Clinician Scientist Program. Since its establishment in 2011, this program provides unique opportunities for young medical doctors to combine their clinical training with “protected time” for research. The new “digital extension” aims to strengthen the already existing program and bring it to the “next level” by incorporating the new structural element of digital science.

The first Call for Digital Clinician Scientist proposals is online (please see www.bihealth.org/d-csp). In the context of this call, BIH is organizing a Matching Event on April 5th, in cooperation with Smart Data Forum and Hacking Health Berlin.

Project Objectives

The “Smart Health & Biomedical Innovation” event aims at creating an initial opportunity for medical doctors, researchers and computer science experts to meet and exchange ideas on possible collaboration and common research projects. Ideally, the event will serve as an occasion for match-making, in order to help program candidates to increase the quality of their proposals. Potential applicants for (junior) D-CSP positions are asked to provide a short abstract of their project idea and to pitch it during the Match Making Event. Abstracts are circulated in advance to enable targeted matching with digital experts.
