HOW TO TAKE PART

[row class=”text-center”]
[col md=”6″]
SUBMIT A CHALLENGE

The principle of the challenge is to present a health-related problem that can be resolved, at least partially, using a technological approach (software, hardware, or both).

Previous challenges have involved topics such as e-prescribing, fall detection, a multimedia prevention tool, serious games, mHealth, patient flow management, medical record applications.

To submit a requirement or wish, a challenger must register on the Sparkboard platform. This is a web application specifically for managing the challenges.
There, the challenger describes the problem, the avenues to explore to solve it, and the profiles that he/she is looking for. Anyone who is interested can discuss the project with the challenger and register provisionally for the challenges that interest them.

On the Friday evening, challengers present their projects. The problems and the solutions that the participants consider to be the most promising or interesting will be the ones that the teams work on during the Arkathon.

Challenges can be submitted up to the last moment.

Further information about the organisation of the weekend will be sent to participants as necessary by email.
JOIN A TEAM

Developers, designers, programmers, IT specialists, patients and health professionals (non-challengers) are invited to join projects and work with challengers to develop their ideas.

To do this, they must register on the Sparkboard platform in order to form provisional teams.

Challenges can be submitted up to the last moment, so please don’t hesitate to check the Sparkboard regularly.

The teams will be formed officially on the Friday evening after the challengers have made their pitches. However, please note that places are limited!

The organisers and sponsors provide equipment and coaching to help teams with the technical implementation. To find out more, please look at the hardware + software section.

IS THERE A CHARGE?

No, participation in the event is free.
WHAT ABOUT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY?

All work done during the event is open-source unless you and your team agree otherwise before you start work.

This event is above all a place for sharing and a new way of learning and cooperating.

If you would like to continue the adventure after Arkathon, we can support you via the Swiss Digital Health acceleration programme.

COMPETITION AND PRIZES

A panel of judges, consisting of specialists in health, IT and finance, will decide between the competing projects. The total amount allocated to the winners is 25’000 CHF.-.

The first prize will reward the project having the highest economic potential. The total amount of the first prize is 20’000 CHF.- (15’000.- for an acceleration program and 5’000.- cash). The second prize – 3000.-CHF – will be allocated to the project that had the best progression during the week-end (Best Effort). In addition to the two first prizes, a third one of 2’000 CHF.- may be awarded to a Coup de Coeur project.

The judging panel reserves the right not to award prizes if the quality of the projects is not sufficiently high.

HH Berlin – Medical Salon

On Tuesday November 29th 2016 we will host our third medical salon in Berlin, to which we invite everyone who is passionate about healthcare.

After the last two very interactive Medical Salons we will continue this event series at the beautiful Jää-äär Bar near Mauerpark in the heart of the Brunnenviertel.

What is a medical salon?

A medical salon is an interactive and engaging event where the participants are also the speakers. That means everybody is free to give a (spontanous) talk about whatever topic they are interested in, as long as it is healthcare related and not a company pitch. Each talk will be followed by a round of questions and discussions. So if you are keen about tissue engineering, the future of medicine, or if you want to share your experience with healthcare you are very welcome to join.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Berlin medical salon!

Talks:

Topics have to be health care related. Please no company presentations
There will be no fixed speakers scheduled or announced ahead
Talks should last 5 to max. 10 minutes
Beamer for presentation is available
The event will be held in English.
18:30 Get together

19:00 Talks Start

Open end with lots of time and space to exchange and network with some fantastic cocktails.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the goal?

The primary goal of each hackathon is to rapidly prototype practical ideas that could be useful in healthcare.

Our broader vision is to foster collaborative, cross-disciplinary relationships that can lead to more significant innovation down the road. Not all ideas can be prototyped within a day or a week, and many ideas lay dormant simply because domain experts do not know whom to talk to about building their ideas.

We believe that healthcare will improve as we bring technical expertise closer to front-line problems.

Who can attend?

Patients, healthcare professionals, creatives, developers and entrepreneurs are encouraged to join! Be it student or professional. These groups are invited to pitch their health(care) idea/problem OR to join a team to build out ideas and develop solutions.

The goal is to leverage the skills and energy of all the participants to move each idea forward. New people, new ideas, new solutions!

What do I need to bring?

Just your laptop and an adapter. We will provide food and drinks during the weekend.

What does the fee include?

The fee includes: a healthy breakfast/lunch/dinner and drinks!
And of course the ability to participate in an inspiring and fun weekend working on improving healthcare!

Where can I stay in Nijmegen

You can use our free sleeping facility, but please let us know that you’re coming! You do have to bring your own sleeping gear (airbed, sleeping bag & pillow).

Do I need to form a group before the start of the weekend?

You do not need to for a group beforehand. We encourage you to come by yourself and form a team with people you don’t know. The combination of people from different backgrounds will generate new and exciting perspectives!

Can I participate for one or two days?

You can only participate if you attend the whole weekend (Friday 20th May 17:30 – Sunday 22nd May 17:30).

If you really can’t attend the full three days but still want to be part of Hacking Health Nijmegen, become a volunteer! Or watch the presentations of the teams on Sunday. For both you can sign-up on Eventbrite.

Can I watch the presentations on Sunday?

Yes you can! Get your observer on Eventbrite.

Do I have to pitch an idea?

It is a great opportunity to do so and form a great team to work on your idea, so we highly recommend it! You can also pose a problem if you like.

But, no it is not obligatory to pitch an idea. At the start of the weekend, several participants will pitch their ideas and you will be able to choose which idea you want to work on!

Is my idea for a pitch any good?

Yes! As long as your idea is related to healthcare and a possible solution can be prototyped technically, digitally or visually.

Sparkboard is our online platform where you can present your idea/problem before the start of the weekend. Participants will be able to browse the different projects to see what interests them. A good way to get people enthusiastic about your idea!

What about intellectual property?

In general the following guidelines apply as set by Hacking Health: http://hackinghealth.ca/hackathons/. Since the event is set in the Netherlands, Dutch patent- and copyright laws also apply.
